Inspired by Our Children & a Simple Love for Sleep

 When our daughters were ready to leave their cribs and move into their first big girl beds, we discovered there was not a mattress on the marketplace specifically designed for the needs of children. This was a shock to us because our family has been in the bedding business for over 70 years, and we were amazed we had never noticed this glaring need in the market.

Simply put, the bedding industry has never made children's mattresses a priority. The choices for children's mattresses have been quality mattresses designed with adults in mind, or poor quality mattresses that are passed off as "good enough for kids." We knew how important sleep was for proper mental and physical development, so we wanted something better for our daughters. With our expertise in the bedding industry and a few years of parenting under our belt, we set out to create the ideal sleep system bed for kids. We spent months testing materials, creating layouts, and tweaking designs until we found all the best components needed in a kids mattress that helped our daughters get to sleep faster, sleep more soundly through the night, and waking up feeling rested, refreshed, and healthy. Study after study proves the importance of good rest for child development. But before we created 5 Little Monkeys, we couldn't find a sleep system with children's needs in mind. No one seemed to consider the important differences between grown-up bodies and growing bodies or how kids sleep would be affected by those differences.

That's why we set out to create a brand new kind of toddler mattress that can be used from age 3 through age 18. We started from the ground up, working to address a range of concerns in the design process like:

  • Body weight and proportions
  • Changing body structure
  • Body temperature regulation
  • Tendency to have nighttime "accidents"
  • Allergies

The mattresses we came across were designed for grown-up bodies and grown up needs. So, we set out to find a new way for little monkeys everywhere!

We created 5 Little Monkeys specifically for growing kids. We researched, studied and designed the optimum features and benefits to support better sleep in children. Then, we created an entire sleep system bed incorporating the very best of our findings. Behind Your 5 Little Monkeys' Kids Mattress

Once upon a time, in 1945, there was a bed maker named Irving Harrow who founded a small company called Hollywood Bed. He would hand make his beds until they were just right. Each afternoon, he would load up what he made that morning in his station wagon and deliver them to his customers.

When Irving's son Larry rose to the helm in the 1970s, Hollywood Bed grew its capabilities and product line. He invested in state-of-the-art equipment and demanded only the finest bedding products in the industry.

In 1997, Larry's son, Jason Harrow, started working at the company and took over the operation in 2010. He further grew the company to supply some of most significant retailers and hotel brands in the world, while keeping quality as the #1 priority. Inspired by their two girls, Jason and his wife Courtney decided to create the ideal sleep system bed for kids...and 5 Little Monkeys was born! Today, we provide toddler mattresses for children throughout the country!
